And The Winners Are...

 
It's time to announce the winners of the JCCFS Fall Festival Giveaway! I thank each of you who took the time to enter-I only wish I had tickets for each of you.

There were 22 entries in the giveaway. I used the handy dandy Random Number Generator to pick the winners from a numbered list of entry names. The first number generated was number 9...

Which corresponds with the name-Lonnie Dockery. I hope those of you who didn't win-still decide to come out to the JCCFS's Fall Festival-it truly is a fun festival for all ages where you can see crafts, demonstrations, music, and dancing.

You might even catch the JCCFS Cloggers hovering in mid air (go back and check out the first photo in this post). Well-o.k. you might not see them hovering in real life-but I guarantee you'll see some ankle breakers on both days of the festival!

When To Make Kraut - And Blooper Winners

 
Most of the cabbage seeds I planted way back in early Spring have survived their journey and are growing into some dandy heads of cabbage.

My family-and The Deer Hunter's family always make Kraut when the signs are in the head. Next Monday and Tuesday-July 5th & 6th the signs go into the head-and we'll be making Kraut. We use the traditional method of making kraut in a crock-in much the same manner that we make Pickled Beans and Corn.

To make Kraut the way we do-you need a crock, cabbage, and salt-either pickling salt or un-iodized table salt. Optional-peppers. The Deer Hunter likes to add banana peppers to our Kraut.

If you'd like to make it with us-I'll try to post directions as early as I can on Monday-hopefully by dinner time. Or you can see how we do it-then wait till August 1st and 2nd when the signs go back into the head again to make your own.

Catherine Seiberling Pond! What does she win? One of my Altered Digital Photos-the 5X7 photo above is matted and ready for framing-all Catherine will need is an 8X10 frame to put it in. I hope she likes it.

I took the photo while riding a ferry down Fontana Lake. We were headed to Hazel Creek for an amazing day full of hiking through history. We went to see the town of Proctor-or I should say what remains of the town. When the TVA built Fontana Dam-it effected quite a few small towns. Most of them were flooded and covered by the lake created when the dam was built. Proctor was effected too-but not by being covered-it was isolated. After the dam was built and the lake filled too capacity-Proctor was only accessible by boat. A post about Proctor is coming up soon-so if you're interested be on the look out for it.
