Spreading The Linky Love For June

Free link for commenting

Time to Spread the Love-I'd like to thank each one of you for being part of the Blind Pig. During the month of June you went along with me as I suckered tomatoes, bemoaned cuts in education funding, tried to figure out why I feel safer in the mountains, sat under the weeping willow tree and bragged about my squash.

I've always assumed everyone knew why I link back to folks who comment during the month-until someone asked me-"Why do you go to all that trouble of linking to each person who comments?" So I thought I would share the answer with you in case anyone else was wondering. The answer-each time someone links to your blog/website-it raises your Google ranking-which makes it easier for folks to find your site-and hopefully leads to an increase in traffic. As a way of saying thank you for supporting the Blind Pig & The Acorn-I link to your sites to show support for them too.

Southern Highlands of Appalachia

The prize for June-is the world renown book-Our Southern Highlanders by Horace Kephart. I love reading about the history of Appalachia and it's great people-but I especially enjoy Kephart's book as he lived less than a 100 miles from me when he wrote it.

The Spread the Love winner for June is...David Templeton.

Hope you all keep visiting the Blind Pig-and please click on one of those commenters-and go for a visit- I know you'll be glad you did.

The Texican a.k.a. Pappy! The thing is-I don't have the prize yet-so Pappy will have to wait a few days-but I promise it'll be well worth the wait! Hopefully, in a few days I'll be able to post about the exciting prize Pappy has won-so stay tuned!

The Boys

Paul recently received some pretty neat kudos for a video we shared several months back. As soon as we heard the great news-I wanted to see the video again. I knew it was a great song-but also knew it was one of our first videos and couldn't remember who filmed it or what the footage looked like. After I saw it-I blushed. Chitter filmed it-and did her best rock video in and out technique with lots of foot shots. In the background-behind Paul's head-you can see Chatter doing some sort of contortionist act on the back of the couch. Oh well, I guess all that matters is Paul and Pap's great harmony and the outstanding music showed through our less than professional video capture.

Thought I'd share the video with you one more time-a great Front Range song "Way Back In The Hills".

Hope you enjoyed the song-and I hope you'll click on one of the commenter's names at the top of the post-you've never seen such a talented group of folks-and if you drop by their place I know you'll be glad you did!

Spreading December's Love To The Acorns

Spreading the Love Dec

Time to Spread The Love for the month of December. This month you've dreamed in the kitchen, been introduced to Nancy Simpson, celebrated the release of Paul and Pap's Christmas cd, looked back at Granny's Christmas trees, made sideburn cookies, went back in time to walk to the folk school in 1938, told it on the mountain, helped Break Up Christmas, and dropped a possum-all with me.

 Chatter's Pets

Meet Wilson and Judy-they're the acorns in the picture above. Several years ago, after watching the movie Castaway-Chatter decided she needed a "pet" named Wilson too. For some unknown reason the child picked an acorn (a small acorn-Wilson is the little one). Do you know how easy it is to loose an acorn? Well I can tell you-very easy for a busy little girl. She was constantly loosing Wilson and constantly crying for someone to find him. You know who the someone was-me. I finally found her this little black box, thinking at least the box would be easier to find than the acorn. Her cousin, and fellow Indian Princess, decided Wilson was lonely-so she found Judy (the big acorn) for Chatter. Thankfully Judy fit in the box with Wilson. Chatter continued misplacing the box-now loosing 2 acorns. The last time she lost the box-it took 3 days and dismantling the back of the couch before we found it. After that, I convinced Chatter to keep the box on the shelf beside her bed for safekeeping.

A few weeks ago, I was thinking of how aggravated I got about something as small as 2 acorns-something that brought Chatter great joy. Looking back, I wish I had encouraged her imagination-even got Granny to knit them a bed or a little acorn sweater. Now Chatter has out grown her need for Wilson and Judy-they still reside on the shelf by her bed amidst all the middle school girl paraphernalia. The painting at the top of the page, one of my most recent, is titled "Wilson & Judy" it was inspired by my mind wandering back to the days of looking for acorns.

Now time too Spread the Love to one of you Acorns! The winner is...

Spread the love prize

Dana of Old Red Barn Co. Fame! She wins 3 of Granny's crotched snowflake ornaments (more are available in my Etsy shop) and 5 gift tags made by me!

The list of commenters at the top of the page-all those in orange have a wonderful site-click on their name and go for a visit-I know you'll be glad you did!

Spreading The Love & A Song For The Acorns

Spreading the Love October

Time to thank each of you who commented in the month of October! You joined me on my journey as I moved Nellie to town, cooked up some of Granny's Pear Preserves, got scared in the moonlight, remembered Papaw, made some mudpies, discussed poverty and fatalism in Appalachia, went on a fall look see, scared my kids, scared myself with burial customs, and laughed at Granny's thoughts on computers-and I'm proud to say-you have left insightful comments each step of the way.

I'm sending a big THANK YOU out to each of you:

Spreading Love To The Acorns

Largeredlogo

It's time for September's Spread the Love-and time to thank all you wonderful commenters who make the Blind Pig a better place to visit. When I first started this blog-I wondered if I could manage it-actually I still do. Those feelings led to the choice of my name-Blind Pig & The Acorn. (you can read about it here)

I find I'm not very "swift" as The Deer Hunter would say. All these months of posting-I've kept my mantra in my head:  "Even a blind pig can find an acorn every once in a while" meaning I can do this! But I never realized until today-you guys that comment-you are the ACORNS I'm finding. Each comment you leave just adds to the worth of the blog. Your comments truly add richness.

Acorns

So I'm sending a great big Thank You to all the September acorns!

Since I had my epiphany (commenters=acorns) I've decided I should celebrate the whole month of October-since it is the month for acorns.

On each Friday in October-I'm having a giveaway. To enter all you have to do is leave me a comment that week on any post. Thats it! Just comment. The giveaways will be on Oct. 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, and the 31st.

I hope you'll tell your friends about the giveaways, tell your neighbors, and shout it from your roof tops-well that could be dangerous-so just shout it from your car window as you drive down the road. That should work in getting me and you some attention!

Thanks again to all the Acorns (commenters)! Most Acorns have a great site of their own-so please click on a name and go for a visit-I know you'll be glad you did.
